Think Green Construction / National Green Building Standard™

Much like the manner in which the label “organic” has been misapplied to various food and sundry products, the denotation of “green” construction was loosely interpreted until the inception of the National Green Building Standard™.

The National Green Building Standard™ was developed through a partnership between the NAHB and the ICC. The goal of the venture was to establish benchmark levels for what qualifies as “green” home construction practices. To qualify, a builder, remodeler or developer must incorporate a minimum number of features in the following areas:

• Energy
• Water and Resource Efficiency
• Lot and Site Development
• Indoor Environmental Quality
• Home Owner Education
